I just returned from a great conference put on by BioCycle and the Institute for Local Self Reliance at the US Composting Council’s annual conference. Through scholarships from ILSR nearly 70 community composters were able to attend from around the country. The group included educators, scientists, activists, worker-owners from coops, bicycle haulers and more. Here’s a sampling:
- NYC Compost Project
- CompostNow.org from NC
- LA Compost
- The Compost Pedallers of Austin, TX
- Pedal People of MA
- Tilthy Rich of GA
- Rust Belt Riders of OH
- CERO of MA
It was a dynamic, passionate and experienced group of dedicated individuals from whom I was able to learn a lot! The facilitation and organization was outstanding and I am bursting with ideas for how to grow the RRR and leverage our work to help Reno embrace city-wide composting.
Be sure to check out ilsr.org – they’re a great group doing really wonderful work including their “Waste to Wealth” program under which conference this was a part. We look forward to partnering with them to bring their Composter Training Program to Reno in the coming months.
